The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This vacancy for a Psychiatric Nurse (PN) 2 is located at Desert Regional Center in Las Vegas, NV. The PNII will complete thorough health care assessments of service recipients who have Intellectual Disabilities or Closely Related Conditions and provide recommendations for support plan development and follow up medical care as appropriate. The PNIImust work effectively with hospital discharge planners and other rehab and long term care facilities in assessing service recipient current heath care needs, readiness for discharge and identify supports that will be required upon discharge. The PNII must respond promptly to referrals related to health care consultation and participation in Individual Support Planning meetings. The PNII will be responsible to review various documents to include incident accident reports, investigation reports, project status reports, QA finding reports etc. and aggregate data reports for purposes of assessing for trends and patterns and determining whether plans of corrective action and follow up is needed. Strong writing skills are imperative to the position. The PNII will be responsible to develop and conduct training related to health care to DRC staff and contracted provider staff. The PNII must be comfortable and adept at speaking to both small and large groups and in researching and compiling training material. The PNII must have the ability to conduct medical/health related QA reviews of supported living arrangements and jobs and day training sites in a thorough, objective and fair manner. This will involve significant travel throughout the Las Vegas valley. The PNII is responsible to support and promote the mission and policies of the agency and conduct him/herself in a manner that creates an atmosphere of respect and dignity for individuals served, co-workers and community partners. The incumbent will participate in rights assurance oversight committees. This position requires experience in: investigating incidents of alleged abuse and neglect and other sentinel events; participating in quality assurance reviews for provider certification; reviewing and monitoring plans of improvement from provider agencies related to health and welfare of service recipients.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or mental retardation; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Special Requirements
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
    Requires experience investigating incidents of alleged abuse and neglect and other sentinel events.
    Requires experience participating in quality assurance reviews for provider certification.
    Requires experience reviewing and monitoring plans of improvement from provider agencies related to health and welfare of service recipients.
