The Position
Grounds Supervisors perform and/or plan and schedule a variety of landscape and grounds maintenance activities such as planting, mowing, irrigating, pruning, fertilizing, and removing trash, leaves, snow and ice.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
*THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE PRIOR TO THE ANNOUNCED CLOSING DATE WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE BASED ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED* This position will perform and/or plan and schedule a variety of landscape and gardening maintenance activities such as planting, irrigating, pruning, fertilizing, and keeping grounds clean and free of trash, leaves, snow and ice. Apply modern methods of horticulture, irrigation and grounds maintenance to plan and schedule work according to seasonal demands, agency needs and budget restrictions; may assist in the design plans for landscape alterations and supervise their execution; calculate applications of herbicides and fertilizers; purchase materials; maintain inventories; and evaluate and solve problems related to shrubs, flowers, turf and irrigation systems such as erosion control, soil stabilization, removal of diseased vegetation, subsequent revegetation and weed abatement; contact a variety of vendors and contractors in pursuit of applicable landscape techniques and materials. Supervise a crew of skilled and semi-skilled workers engaged in grounds maintenance and construction by assigning tasks, reviewing work and providing training, performance evaluations and discipline. This position will also be required to review landscape and irrigation design drawings, perform administrative duties, maintain equipment, and have a basic knowledge of the irrigation control systems; and perform related duties as assigned. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00AM-2:30PM but may change based on campus needs. *Per the Nevada State Legislature, classified employees are subject to mandatory unpaid furlough. **UNLV is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity educator and employer committed to excellence through diversity.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience performing and supervising a small work unit engaged in general grounds maintenance and turf maintenance; OR one year of experience as a Grounds Supervisor I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Skills Required
    A valid Nevada driver's license is required at the time of employment and as a condition of continued employment.
