The Position
Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive and maintenance equipment, landscape equipment, computerized testing equipment, and diesel-fueled electric power generators. 
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
*THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE PRIOR TO THE ANNOUNCED CLOSING DATE BASED ON THE VOLUME OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED* The incumbent will lead and perform a wide variety of maintenance and repair work on vehicles and carts, plus all other assigned equipment. The incumbent will service, diagnose, repair/rebuild the following to include, but not limited to: a) internal combustion engines, b) engine cooling systems, c) transmissions, drivelines, drive axles, d) fuel and exhaust systems, e) electrical and electronic systems, f) heating and air conditioning systems, g) steering and suspension systems, h) brake and antilock brake systems. The incumbent may provide training, work direction and review to semi-skilled equipment shop staff such as Equipment Mechanic 1, Fleet Service Workers and students. Duties also include completing necessary documentation, maintaining inventory, and other related duties as assigned. The work schedule is Monday thru Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm. *Per the Nevada State Legislature, classified positions are subject to six (6) mandatory unpaid furlough days through June 30, 2014. **UNLV is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity educator and employer committed to excellence through diversity.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Skills Required
    As a contingency of employment, the chosen candidate must receive Refrigerant Recovery Certification within one year of the date of hire.
