The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located in the Bureau of Air Quality Planning and involves fieldwork and travel. This position will be responsible for the oversight and operation of a rural Nevada ozone ambient monitoring network including: the maintenance and operation of data loggers, portable ozone monitors, criteria pollutant monitors and meteorological instruments. The position collects and performs data quality assessments and data analyses implementing spreadsheets, air dispersion modeling and GIS. The position creates technical reports and documents suitable for professional journal publication, as well as analyses for policy and rulemaking decision-making.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.
    Applicants for Staff I, Associate Engineer who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination given by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying are not required to take the State's written test.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with portable ozone monitors.
    Experience with criteria pollutant monitors.
    Experience with meteorological instruments.
    Experience with data loggers.
    Experience with data QA/QC, analysis and report generation.
    Experience with drafting technical reports.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements). If there are more than 5 qualified applicants the exam will consist of a training and experience exam weighted 100%.
Staff II, Assoc. Engineer - Division of Environmental Protection
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

4) Describe your professional environmental engineering experience, including the number of years, in a State, Federal, or local regulatory or environmental protection agency.
5) Describe your Professional Engineering experience, including the number of years, which included responsibilities in an environmental field, i.e., air pollution control, water pollution control, waste management, mining reclamation, etc.
6) Describe your supervisory or administrative experience, including the number of years, over any one or a combination of environmental fields.
7) Describe other professional supervisory engineering experience.
8) List any environmental engineering workshops, seminars, or courses you have attended.
9) Describe your experience in application and or use of a personal computer and software.
