The Position
Laboratory Technicians perform standardized technical laboratory procedures requiring knowledge in the life and physical sciences.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) in the Laboratory. Agency positions may be assigned to any SNAMHS work location, initially this position is anticipated to be assigned to the Laboratory, located at 1650 Community College Drive in Las Vegas. The anticipated schedule is Sunday-Thursday, 5:30am - 2:30pm. Lab Technician II's perform routine laboratory tests; stain and label specimens; draw blood, conduct observations and record test results; follows all established policies and procedures, performs a variety of venipuncture techniques using standard equipment, in the collection of blood specimens from patients, operates the centrifuge, orders send out laboratory testing in the reference lab computer system as required, prepares specimens for send out, following specific storage, stability and shipping guidelines in accordance with all applicable laws, procedures and established protocols; and performs a variety of patient, quality control, proficiency and calibration testing on laboratory equipment. Supervision Received and exercised. Our Agency's mission is to help adults with mental illness improve their quality of life. Through a team approach, we provide innovative inpatient and outpatient mental health services for the Southern Nevada community. Some of the valuable services we provide include Psychiatric Emergency Services, Inpatient Services, Mobile Crises, Outpatient Counseling, Service Coordination, Intensive Service Coordination, Medication Clinic, Residential Support Programs, Mental Health Court, Consumer Advocacy and Programs for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) teams. Inpatient services are provided through Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital. Outpatient services are provided through five mental health clinics located throughout the community. We are accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). SNAMHS is an exciting place to work with emphasis on utilizing the recovery model, developing innovative programs, increasing consumer and family involvement, educating the public through a variety of activities, and implementing a best practices clinical program. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience in a laboratory setting that involved performing various laboratory tests and experiments, and maintaining and repairing basic laboratory equipment; OR one year as a Laboratory Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Certification is a specific field may be required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Must have current Nevada license as a Lab Assistant
    Must have Phlebotomy Experience or Training Certificate.
    Experience working in a secure work environment.
    Experience with an Electronic Medical Records System or On-line Patient Charting system
    Experience with a personal computer.
