Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The main purpose of this position is to serve as the principle coordinator of implementing Lahontan Cutthroat Trout (LCT) Species Management Plan for Quinn River/Blackrock Basins and N Fork Little Humboldt River sub-basin; conducting wildlife surveys; analyzing wildlife data, completing technical reports; evaluating land management plans and activities; presenting Department recommendations and informational programs to the public; evaluating habitat conditions; trapping and transplanting wildlife and performing species and fisheries management planning. It is the principle liaison with local offices of the Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service to determine potential funding for Stream Survey and LCT projects.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and three years of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR two years of experience as a Biologist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations.
Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
