The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups.
This position is located in the Housing Division of the Department of Business and Industry in Carson City, NV. The purpose of this position is to provide computer operation support, systems administration support including selection, maintenance and support of server hardware, operating systems and software packages required to support operations. Primary duties also include network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and information security including compliance with federal laws relative to mortgage personal information and data backup, security and disaster recovery planning. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate routing requests to State WAN group; manage single domain multi subnet network with about sixty users and peripherals; maintain and manage support agreements with multiple software and hardware vendors; manage multiple Virtual Private Network (VPN) accounts for staff and vendors; and provide help desk support for users and equipment in multiple locations. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for managing video conferencing systems at multiple locations in the state. The position is responsible for automating file transfers of mortgage data to and from major financial institutions; and the development and maintenance of Structured Query Language (SQL) and Common Business-Oriented Language (COBOL) databases along with file scripting and batch processing. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
    This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
    Statewide travel is required.
    Working weekends and/or holidays is required.
    One year of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
    Applicants must be willing to work standby and carry the standby cellular phone for evening and weekend system troubleshooting.
    A valid State of Nevada Driver's License is required at the time of appointment and for continued employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with multiple modules specific for mortgage/banking industry such as Emphasys Application Oriented Designs (AOD).
    Experience with video conferencing systems such as Polycom.
    Experience with automating file transfers.
    Experience with developing and maintaining Structured Query Language (SQL) and Common Business-Oriented Language (COBOL) databases along with file scripting and batch processing.
The Examination
