JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for conducting drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk processing plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, public institutions and other related facilities to ensure compliance with State laws and regulations.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position is responsible for permitting, management, education, enforcement, consultation and emergency response for the purpose of prevention of environmental health hazards and the promotion and protection of the public health and the environment in the following areas: food protection; bottled water plants and distributors ; cosmetic plants; public accommodations; recreational vehicle parks; institutional environmental health; recreational swimming areas and waters; solid and liquid waste management; onsite septic systems; water sanitation; and emergency preparedness. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in the life sciences or other closely related field.
Special Notes
Any person licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist in another state or by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) must obtain and maintain certification of registration by the Nevada State Board within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee by the Nevada State Board is required within 90 days of appointment for the I and II levels of this series.
