Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position will provide services to individuals, groups and families at the Elko Rural Counseling and Supportive Services Clinic and other centers throughout Rural Community Health Services (RCHS) Northern Nevada area. This position conducts individual, family and group therapy or interventions utilizing best practices and standard of care. The team approach model is used to develop treatment planning and implementation for services. This also includes developing and implementing discharge and aftercare plans. Quality Assurance duties are required and involve reviewing clinical records for peers throughout the centers. The Mental Health Counselor supervises lower level professionals and may have interns they provide clinical supervision for. Computer skills are required to complete documentation in a medical records system. This center has been designated as a loan repayment site through the National Health Services Corps (NHSC). This position may provide services on behalf of and at multiple sites statewide to support the Division and Rural Community Health Services. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience.

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Moderate travel is required.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
This position requires licensure or license eligible as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
