Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
In the Early Childhood Treatment Program, provides individual and family therapy services to severely emotionally disturbed children, birth to seven years of age. In the Outpatient Clinical Services Program, the position provides individual and family therapy services to severely emotionally disturbed children, 6 to 17 years of age, and their families in an office and/or home-based setting; also provides intensive clinical case management in a wraparound service delivery model facilitating family-driven child and family teams. Must be able to formulate psychosocial assessments and DSM IV diagnoses as well as create and implement individualized treatment plans. In the Inpatient Services Program, which serves the most severely emotionally disturbed clients, the position conducts assessments of clients and families; develops and implements treatment plans, provides testimony at court hearings; provides individual, family and group therapy; In the Juvenile Correction Centers, the position provides assessments, professional counseling, case management and recommendations for community reintegration services for youth in a correction setting. This position will develop and provide assessment and treatment for a caseload that includes Spanish-speaking family members. This will require bilingual and bi-cultural ability to the extent that sensitive therapeutic matters can be adequately understood and dealt with in a culturally sensitive way with all participants in the family session. In addition, the position will be responsible for interpreting screening telephone calls for people trying to access agency services, interpreting during psychiatric consultation and medication management appointments with the agency psychiatrist, interpreting for various other situations such as a client's participation in the business office intake, client's need for assessment at the psychiatric hospital, and potential client's arrival at the agency front desk.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience. |

Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
|
Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

Moderate travel is required.

Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |

Experience working with severely emotionally disturbed children and their families. |

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
