Park Interpreters plan, organize, provide and supervise a variety of interpretive facilities, services and activities and assist in the operation and maintenance of an assigned State park.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located between Carson City and Reno, Nevada at Washoe Lake State Park, a popular area for hiking, biking, camping, water sports, picnicking, and equestrian activities. Incumbents work under general supervision of the Park Supervisor in all aspects of park operations including visitor services, interpretation, maintenance, custodial services, fee collection and accounting.
The position is responsible for developing, preparing and presenting park interpretive programs and tours at both Washoe Lake and Dayton State Park.
The position recruits, supervises, directs, and evaluates seasonal staff and volunteers. The person is responsible for performing routine maintenance and custodial duties as assigned. The position also administers reservations, fee collection and deposits; provides emergency medical assistance within the limits of training and ensures compliance with established park regulations and policies. Park Interpreters are required to work various hours and shifts including weekends and holidays and may have to respond to call outs. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in park management, outdoor recreation management, history/folklore, education, ecology, forestry, biology, agriculture, natural or environmental sciences, horticulture, wildlife management, museum management, business or public administration or related field and one year of professional park experience which included developing, managing and presenting interpretive and/or educational activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. |
