Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
Position will work with the Game Management Division (GMD), coordinating field staff of seasonal technicians, graduate student and volunteers to effectively and efficiently conduct both field and data management work for the mountain goat and bighorn sheep disease transmission research project. Additionally, will work on mule deer migration and survival monitoring and other projects agreed upon by GMD staff. Position may document and maintain records of field observations, collect and properly transfer biological samples from sick or dead animals, monitor satellite collar data transmissions, oversee contracted aerial telemetry, collect dropped big game collars and convert and transform previously collected GMD survey, hunt, disease and GPS animal location data into proper electronic form.
Filling of this position is contingent on funding projected to be determined April 10, 2014.
This position is 75% time, working up to 1,566 hours in a 12-month period.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and one year of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR one year of experience as a Biologist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations. |

Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required. |
|
Specialized experience may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment. |
|
Statewide travel and outdoor work is required. |
|
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

GIS experience.This position will use the Geographical Information System (GIS)to map, monitor and analyze a variety of wildlife related datasets and provide GIS support for field staff. Additionally, it will be involved in transferring and projecting several different input files into GIS from big game GPS collars. |
