The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform journey level duties and may serve as a lead worker to lower level IT staff as assigned. This is a supervisory level for the Computer Operations function.
This position is located within District III, Winnemucca. Incumbent will provide critical support to the Nevada Department of Transportation, Department of Public Safety and allied agencies' communications and electronic systems to include: project planning; installation and maintenance of the Nevada shared radio system, telecommunications systems, computer network cables and infrastructure, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) (such as highway advisory radio, dynamic message signs, roadway weather information systems, vehicle flow detectors, IP Video cameras, wind warning systems, roadway anti-icing systems, ramp metering systems, etc), backbone network systems (wireless, fiber optic, copper, etc), mountaintop communications, dispatch operations, solar powered electronics, and various other specialty technology projects; electronic circuit testing and repair; using, testing, set up and repair of transmitters and receivers, transmission lines, and antennae using communication test sets; land line and cellular modem communication testing and repair; testing and troubleshooting T1 and DS-3 systems.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, and/or applications analysis and development; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Applicants for positions in this series may have a combination of complementary education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that qualify for the class level and specialty being recruited.
    Applicants must be willing to work standby and carry the standby cellular phone for evening and weekend system troubleshooting.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
    Statewide travel is required.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    Requires climbing towers, traveling to remote mountain top sites via 4-wheel Drive, Sno-Cat tracked vehicles, helicopter or hiking by foot.
    Position requires working in inclement weather and varying conditions.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience in electronic circuit testing and repair.
    Experience with radio communications, including using, testing, set up and repair of transmitters and receivers, transmission lines and antennae using communication test sets.
    Experience with telephones, telephone and Ethernet cabling, turning up and changing service in a PBX environment.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
