The Position
Education Programs Directors, Supervisors, and Professionals assist and foster the growth of early childhood, pre-K, K-12, postsecondary, adult, and related education programs throughout Nevada by providing technical assistance, training, and oversight.
The Education Program Professional position of NDE oversees the effectiveness of Pre-K, K-12, Post-Secondary, and other related education programs throughout Nevada. Technical assistance, professional development, and oversight are key responsibilities. This particular Literacy Coordinator position falls under the auspices of the Nevada Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Initiative. While assisting the SRCL Project Manager with the coordination of grant management, this Literacy Coordinator position also works independently in the field by providing oversight and support to the LEAs (local education agencies - i.e. school districts) who have been awarded SRCL funding. This oversight is comprehensive in nature; it examines literacy acquisition for disadvantaged children across Nevada from birth through grade twelve. Key behaviors required include the monitoring of school-level performance with follow-up professional development and/or technical assistance (primarily in the areas of literacy instruction and data-based decision-making).This position also assists in the coordination and facilitation of yearly Summer Institutes on Literacy for Nevada educators. Candidates with extensive experience in providing literacy instruction at the Early Childhood, Elementary, and/or Secondary levels of education are preferred. Candidates with extensive experience in providing literacy instruction and/or methods of Literacy Instruction at the college level are also preferred. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    An earned Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in business, economics, education, English, math, nutrition, psychology, science, sociology, statistics, or related field and one year of professional experience in an educational program area; OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university in business, economics, education, English, math, nutrition, psychology, science, sociology, statistics, or related field and two years of professional experience in an educational program area.
Special Notes
    Positions require program-specific education and/or experience which will be identified by the agency at the time of recruitment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires experience with literacy education from birth to grade 12.
    This position requires eligibility for a Nevada teacher's license, which may include specific endorsements at the time of application.
    This position requires statewide travel.
    This position requires work on evenings and weekends.
    This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
