The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
This position is located in Carson City, which is situated less than 25 miles from both Reno and Lake Tahoe. The incumbent will act as an advanced journey level application developer for the Department's various applications. The IS Unit is part of Division of Health Care Financing and Policy, and is in the process of expanding its role within the development area and should be able to grow as the needs of the diverse group of users. Environment is concentrated around the use of J2EE, Spring, struts, Hibernate, Web Services, Eclipse IDE, Microsoft Visual Studio, RHEL, JBOSS Enterprise Application Platform, IBM Websphere Application Server, IBM DB2, XML/XSD, Jasper Business Intelligence, Jaspersoft iReport for development of reports, structured query language (SQL), and Linux (RHEL 5) scripting. We also have projects using Share Point development/administration that are in the development phase. The role as a developer is to gather requirements, design, code, and test, deploy and maintain software applications, and computer programs. Some of the additional tools that are used daily as part of our SDLC are Collabnet Team Forge, and Subversion. Currently, we are migrating our applications from JBOSS Enterprise Application Platform to IBM WebSphere Application Server.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

    Statewide travel is required.
    Working weekends and/or holidays is required.
    Applicants must be willing to work standby and carry the standby cellular phone for evening and weekend system troubleshooting.
    A valid State of Nevada Driver's License is required at the time of appointment and for continued employment.
