The Position
Game Wardens protect the wildlife and fisheries resources of the State and the public by enforcing wildlife, boating and natural resource laws and by providing education in areas such as wildlife management, and hunter, boating and firearms safety.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is a statewide wildlife investigative position that performs criminal wildlife/illegal guiding investigations involving violations of state and or federal laws. Initiates investigations following a formal request for services or as a coordinated effort with other federal, state or local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies or based on information obtained from cooperating individuals , the public or other sources. Reviews information and conducts background investigations to determine the validity of information and appropriate use of sources. Interviews sources to obtain information regarding criminal investigations and develops the case history, goals and objectives. Gathers and preserves evidence, searches crime scenes, take photographs, obtains fingerprints, develops sketch diagrams and talks to suspects and witnesses. Analyzes, transports and secures evidence following evidentiary procedures. Develops and maintains case files, logs and reports and documents investigative activities to establish patterns, trends and motives. Writes affidavits and requests search and arrest warrants and subpoenas to initiate criminal prosecution. Performs surveillance and/or covert acivities. Prepares investigative reports encompassing all events and facts pertaining to the case, provides testimony in court. THIS RECRUITMENT IS ONLY FOR THE HENDERSON GEOGRAPHIC AREA AND APPLICANTS MUST INDICATE A WILLINGNESS TO WORK IN THIS AREA IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology, criminal justice or closely related field and three years of professional experience in enforcing wildlife and/or boating safety laws; OR two years of experience as a Game Warden II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Candidates hired in this series must acquire Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification in Nevada.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety.  Persons offered employment in this position must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances.
    Successful completion of a medical examination; physical agility test; psychological test and evaluation, which will include polygraph testing; and a background investigation are required at the time of appointment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    For insurance purposes and home storage of state vehicles, employee must reside in the State of Nevada at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
