Curators perform a broad range of professional and technical museum work involving, but not limited to, assessment, evaluation, survey, inventory, preservation, research, education and planning for a specific collection and/or program area within a museum.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located in Overton, Nevada, at the Lost City Museum in the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Division of Museums and History.
The position is responsible to: 1) manage the collections including registration, preservation, conservation, security and appropriate use of artifacts in museum exhibits with a focus on archaeological artifacts from Ancestral Puebloans who lived in the Moapa Valley; 2) archaeology and research in support of the museum collections, often involving collaborative efforts with other state and federal agencies; 3) manage the museum's education program for students and adults, including programming school tours and adult public programs; 4) public outreach and event planning in support of the museum's mission.
NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2015.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in history, prehistory, natural history, museology or closely related field plus two years of professional experience in a museum setting; OR one year of experience as a Curator I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Must be able to work all holidays from May through October. |
|
Statewide travel is required. |
|
Working outdoors is required. |
|
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |
