The Position
Health Information Coordinators store, maintain, retrieve, retain, and release health information for a comprehensive medical/clinical records system in compliance with applicable standards and licensing requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. The Health Information Director vacancy is located at Desert Regional Center (DRC) in Las Vegas. The Health Information Director is responsible for managing the systematic storage, maintenance, retrieval, retention, and release of health information for a comprehensive medical/clinical records system in compliance with applicable accreditation standards and licensing, regulations, policies, and procedures at Desert Regional Center (DRC). The incumbent prepares and maintains medical/clinical records according to facility standards and accepted filing methods and procedures, creates new records, files documents in appropriate sections, thins and purges records according to established facility policies and procedures, archives records of patients no longer receiving services, and provides technical assistance and training to facility staff regarding records maintenance practices. The position is responsible for auditing records; verifying completeness; flags deficiencies; notifies appropriate personnel regarding deficiencies; follows up until record is complete and properly documented; and compiles data, statistical reports, and results of quality improvement audits as required. The incumbent will supervise the Health Information Coordinator and AA II staff in the medical records department at DRC.
The Health Information Director will be responsible to: develop and implement policies and procedures related to the handling, dissemination, confidentiality and preservation of health information; provide technical expertise to Intermediate Care Facility-Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (ICF-IDD) management and clinical teams as well as community services teams overseeing Medicaid Home and Community Based Waiver Program and other state funded service programs; ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to the control, use and release of health information and record retention; oversee records quality assurance activities for ICF-IDD and Community Services.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) with the American Health Information Management Association and two years of supervisory experience in a medical records department of an inpatient hospital which included developing and implementing medical records policies and procedures and providing technical expertise and guidance for medical records functions.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
