The Position
Custodial Workers perform general cleaning services to State facilities using various cleaning equipment and materials to provide a safe, hygienic and orderly work environment.
This recruitment is a continuous recruitment for full-time Custodial Worker 1 positions as they become available at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC). All positions require: frequent standing, walking, twisting and bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching above the head, climbing stairs and ladders, carrying and lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling 90+ lbs, and working outside in inclement weather. Custodial Worker 1s are responsible for conducting general cleaning activities to include cleaning restrooms, mopping and vacuuming floors, cleaning offices/elevators/doors/ stairs/etc., and performing minor repair and carpentry duties. Incumbents may be required to assist with snow removal. Incumbents are expected to follow supervisory directions regarding assigned building(s), report problematic circumstances to the supervisor, and provide excellent customer service to the campus community.
--The typical work schedule is dependent upon the position and varies; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. Pursuant to Nevada Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of six days (part-time prorated) per fiscal year effective July 1, 2013. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and six months of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
