The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is responsible for conducting inspections of environmental laboratories performing analytical tests for the Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and the Nevada Mining Laboratory Program. The incumbent will identify deficiencies in laboratory quality assurance practices and deviations from approved test methods. The LCO will provide onsite technical assistance to laboratory personnel and recommend approval/disapproval of laboratory corrective action plans and eligibility for certification. This position requires moderate travel (up to 25% of the time) in and out of state and ability to pass EPA Laboratory Certification Officer training courses.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Some positions may require specialized experience which will be identified at the time of the recruitment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Must have laboratory experience.
    Moderate travel is required up to 25%.
