The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to mentally ill and/or mentally and physically ill or disabled individuals, in an institution or outpatient setting. This position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) in the Nursing Department. Agency positions may be assigned to any SNAMHS work location, initially this position is anticipated to be assigned to Rawson Neal Hospital Psychiatric Hospital. This position serves as the Administrative Nursing Supervisor responsible for organizing and directing the nursing services for mentally ill, and/or mentally and physically ill individuals. Provide supervision to subordinate supervisors with operations and administrative responsibility for planning, organizing and directing nursing services. Actively participate in clinical leadership, investigations of patient, family, or physician complaints, as well as hiring and selecting of new staff. Dynamic work responsibilities include daily communications with DON II or DON I regarding incidents, staffing or personnel issues/concerns, and patient care concerns. Initiates and documents internal inquiry when an incident occurs to gather, collect, and safeguard pertinent data and documents. Ensures nursing care is delivered and documented consistent with all regulatory agency requirements. Responsible for ensuring compliance with Joint Commission and CMS standards, as well as established laws, regulations and SNAMHS policies.
This is a full time position consisting of 8 hour shifts. Incumbents will be working an innovative variable schedule with overtime after 40 hours per week. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and five years of profes­sional nursing experience including two years in a supervisory capacity and four years of experience in a facility or institution working with individuals with mental illness or mental retardation; OR two years as a Psychiatric Nurse III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
