Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This is a part-time (25 hours) Psychiatric Nurse II position for the Division of Child and Family Services. The position is located in the Outpatient Medication Clinic, serving children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances and mental health needs in Southern Nevada. The Psychiatric Nurse II works closely with the outpatient psychiatrist to provide medication management and psychiatric care. The Psychiatric Nurse II follows procedures for scheduling appointments, monitoring vital signs, submitting doctor?s orders to the pharmacy, completing and tracking prior authorizations, preparing and renewing applications for the Patient Assistance Program, obtaining signed medication consents from parents/legal guardians, record keeping of prescribed medications, and instructing clients and parents/legal guardians regarding medication issues. Laboratory work on clients is monitored and results are reported to the psychiatrist. The Psychiatric Nurse II also works with the outpatient staff performing TB testing and training as needed. The majority of scheduling and documentation is conducted in an electronic records system. Applicants must have knowledge and experience working with computers.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or mental retardation; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Special Requirements
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
