Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series. This position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) in the Nursing Department. Agency positions may be assigned to any SNAMHS work location, initially this position is anticipated to be assigned to Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital, located at 1650 Community College Dr, Las Vegas, NV.
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to mentally ill and/or mentally and physically ill or disabled individuals, in an institution or outpatient setting. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities required in this occupation. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying patient health care needs; making comprehensive clinical observations and evaluations; prepare nursing care plans; administering medications as prescribed by a physician or designee; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction. Will also provide crisis intervention, help develop safety plan recommendations for patients, and actively participate in a multidisciplinary team managing a wide variety of patients and diagnoses. Ensure compliance with Joint Commission and CMS standards, as well as established laws, regulations and SNAMHS policies.
This is a full time position with set 8 hour shifts. Incumbents will be working an innovative variable schedule with overtime after 40 hours per week. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and one year of professional nursing experience; OR one year as a Registered Nurse I in Nevada State service caring for psychiatric or developmentally disabled patients; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
