The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position functions as the Assistant Director of Nursing at Desert Willow Treatment Center, a 24/7 psychiatric hospital providing mental health services to children and adolescents. The position has the authority and responsibility in assisting to ensure that safe and effective patient care is being provided. The position assists in assuring compliance with nursing standards, Joint Commission accreditation standards, Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance licensing standards, and the Legislative Counsel Bureau auditing standards. This position coordinates the admission of children and adolescents requiring acute inpatient care into the facility. The position directly supervises the Psychiatric Nurse III's and the day shift Psychiatric Nurse II's who are responsible for the supervision of the Mental Health Technicians. This position evaluates the performance of nurses annually and as requested, and oversees the performance evaluations of the Mental Health Technicians. This position assists in developing and monitoring discipline specific competencies; oversees the tracking of all mandatory training for nursing staff; and provides orientation, training, and education to all new and existing nursing staff. This position is responsible for staff scheduling and ensuring safe and adequate staff-to-patient ratios on all patient care units 24/7. The position must be able to perform all the duties of the Psychiatric Nurse II in providing direct care to the patients at DWTC. This position also assists in developing, reviewing, revising, and implementing policies and procedures related to patient care, nursing services, and continuous quality improvement.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and five years of profes­sional nursing experience including two years in a supervisory capacity and four years of experience in a facility or institution working with individuals with mental illness or mental retardation; OR two years as a Psychiatric Nurse III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Special Requirements
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
