JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The IT Technician 4 provides excellent customer service and support on the IT Help Desk and in the field at customer locations. The IT Help Desk Support provides user support and ensures all calls are recorded and tracked using the help desk request system; identifies and decides how to resolve technical problems themselves or through appropriate referral; assists with logon/logoff procedures for mainframes, applications, servers, and the network; determines nature of outages and contacts the appropriate person or unit; performs account administration. This position will also provide Mac, PC, and mobile device support. Typical tasks include restoring applications and data from backup media; assisting users with network connectivity, application, system, or local hardware problems, instructing users on PC operation and faults including connections and peripherals; assisting with installations or resolutions as required; and identifying Internet protocol (IP) addresses for failed network connectivity issues; imaging computers; providing mobile device assistance as appropriate. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, three years of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR (for positions in the Network Operations & Support specialty ONLY) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of IT work experience in the upgrade or replacement of software and hardware components on networked workstations; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills Required
This recruitment is open only to persons who have been employed for at least six months of continuous full-time equivalent classified state service and are currently employed at UNLV.
