The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE PRIOR TO THE ANNOUNCED CLOSING DATE BASED ON THE VOLUME OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) William S. Boyd School of Law is seeking an Administrative Assistant 1. This successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be responsive to the needs of Clinic faculty, staff, and student attorneys in representing Clinic clients and conducting related work; possess excellent English verbal and written communications skills; have the ability to work with people from varied cultural and socio-economic backgrounds; greet visitors and clients; open, screen, and route mail; answer telephone, take messages and relay factual information to others as required; perform clerical duties as assigned; schedule appointments; arrange meetings; type, format, produce and duplicate reports, correspondence, instructional materials, and other documents using word processing applications such as Word and Word Perfect, spreadsheet applications, and PowerPoint; and check and correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar as needed; order and maintain office supplies, forms, and equipment. Prepare and process requisitions or other documentation; maintain Clinic-related records and files in accordance with university policies and procedures and established records retention schedules; maintain the three Clinic conference rooms and the child's play room, ensuring that these rooms are neat, organized, and clean; promptly report needed repairs to the Facilities Management Help Desk and maintain a file document that the repair request was submitted and accepted and follow up in a timely manner if the repair has not been accomplished; perform other duties as assigned. Previous experience working in a law firm is a plus. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of clerical experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records, answering telephones, and reviewing forms, documents and other written materials; OR six months of experience as an Administrative Aid in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.

The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
