The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.
Under the direction of the Accountant II, the Accounting Assistant III position is responsible for the processing and monitoring of all aspects of payroll for the Nevada Office of Veterans Services. Duties include reviewing all agency timesheets for 24/7 agency in NEATS for accuracy and proper authorization, and applying pay clerk approval. Review and reconcile payroll generated reports for accuracy and process required corrections. Complete and process retroactive pay adjustments, collection of overpayments, leave balance payouts, pay adjustments, hand-typed check requests, timesheet corrections, stale claims, worker's compensation buybacks, catastrophic leave, and W-4's. Track and process furlough, overtime and part-time hours. Respond to supervisor and employee's inquiries in payroll matters. Conduct NEATS training for new and existing employees. Communicate critical payroll matters through email communication. Research payroll matters utilizing the NAC, NRS, Agency rules and IFS procedures to respond to supervisor and team members' inquires and process payroll documents accurately within State established deadlines, and attend State mandated training. This position requires excellent organization and customer service skills.
Experience with the State of Nevada NEATS, Data Warehouse, and Advantage-HR is preferred.
This position is located at the Nevada State Veterans Home, a 24-hour skilled nursing home facility located in Boulder City.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; setting up computer spreadsheets to record, track, manipulate and report data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; and reconciling accounts; OR one year as an Accounting Assistant II in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel
The Examination

CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
