University Police Officers perform law enforcement duties to protect the Nevada System of Higher Education employees, students, and the general public.

-Truckee Meadows Community College is recruiting for four full-time Police Officer 2 positions located in Reno, Nevada. Applicants must indicate their availability for employment in this location and/or the ability to relocate to the Truckee Meadows geographic area. The positions work under general supervision, performing journey level law enforcement activities pertaining to the protection of college employees, students, and the general public; patrolling and safeguarding college properties and surrounding areas; conducting traffic investigations, assisting victims, rendering first-aid and requesting additional medical assistance when necessary; taking enforcement actions when violations are observed; serving warrants or effecting arrests and transporting persons arrested to the detention center; conducting criminal and non-criminal investigations; preparing for special events and providing security to ensure the protection of individuals, controlling crowds during assemblies and disturbances; conducting traffic control; working cooperatively with local law enforcement agencies; performing community policing functions; serving as a member of task forces and other work groups; preparing for appearances in court; operating a radio, camera, computers, and other modern communications and protective devices; detecting, locating, and managing hazardous material spills by containing and protecting materials; evacuating buildings when necessary; performing maintenance on assigned equipment; performing special assignments related to law enforcement and peace officer functions.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of law enforcement experience; OR Associate of Arts degree or equivalent coursework in criminal justice, police science, psychology, or closely related field and six months of law enforcement experience; OR one year of experience as a University Police Officer I in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
Applicant must meet and maintain current Peace Officer's Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
Special Requirements
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Position requires psychological testing which may include polygraph testing.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law enforcement academy and meet Nevada P.O.S.T. requirements (NAC 289.120). P.O.S.T. Category I certification must be current; OR, a P.O.S.T. Category I certification up to two (2) years will be accepted from applicants who are currently employed with another law enforcement agency (NAC 289.200.2). Certificate must be attached to this application.
Applicants must be proficient in the use of online systems, computers, commonly used software (e.g., Word, Excel), and office equipment, etc.
Applicant must meet minimum fitness requirements established by Nevada Post and enumerated in NAC 289.200. Requires a physical agility test consisting of (1) Completing a vertical jump of not less than 14 inches; (2) Completing not less than 15 sit-ups in 1 minute; (3) Completing not less than 18 push-ups; (4) Running 300 meters in not more than 77 seconds; and (5) Walking or running 1.5 miles in not more than 17 minutes and 17 seconds (NAC 289.140; NRS 289.200.1c).
Applicants must submit to a polygraph and psychological examination. Additionally, any candidate must pass a drug test and thorough background investigation.
Applicants must be able and willing to work any shift, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are subject to change depending upon department needs.
The Nevada System of Higher Education will not appoint a person to a law enforcement position if they have been convicted of a felony in this state, or any offense which would be a felony if committed in this state (NAC 289.110.2a).
The Nevada System of Higher Education will not appoint a person to a law enforcement position if they have been convicted of domestic violence (NAC 289.110.2c).
The Nevada System of Higher Education will not appoint a person to a law enforcement position if they have been convicted of any offense involving the illegal sale of or manufacture of a controlled substance (NAC 289.110b).
The Nevada System of Higher Education will not appoint a person to a law enforcement position if they have been convicted of a D.U.I within the last five years, or two D.U.I. convictions in a lifetime.
