APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $40,862.16 to  $60,405.84  PAY GRADE: 33
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Public Safety Dispatchers perform communications work in the operation of a district, central, or statewide communications center including but not limited to: providing assistance to law enforcement units in both routine and emergency situations; dispatching enforcement units and other emergency mobile units from a computer-aided system; accessing various criminal justice information systems and transmitting the required information; placing telephone calls for officials and registered vehicle owners at accident scenes; providing assistance to other law enforcement agencies as requested; maintaining a variety of logs, recordings, and records; preparing performance and statistical summaries on center activities; preparing reports; conducting data analysis; and providing reports, records, and other various information upon request and within legal authority.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Five years of experience in law enforcement communications including control of ten or more units and the use of State and national criminal justice information systems; OR two years of experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher III in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
    Incumbent must pass the NCIC certification examination within six months of appointment and every two years as a condition of continuing employment.
    Applicants must meet the minimum typing speed established by the agency at the time of recruitment.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Working varying shifts, weekends and/or holidays is required.
    Applicant must undergo an extensive background investigation prior to being considered for appointment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER IV (11.120) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Describe your experience, including number of years, in college coursework, vocation, technical or trade school in English communications techniques or related field.
2) Describe your experience, including number of years, reviewing, writing, interpreting and applying new procedures with limited assistance.
3) Describe your experience, including number of years, preparing employee development reports to include: a) evaluating subordinates (work performance standards, employee appraisals), b) organizing work flow to accomplish established objectives, c) counseling and administering disciplinary procedures to ensure effectiveness and proficiency.
4) Describe your experience, including number of years, a) conducting interviews, b) coordinating shift schedules, and c) conducting meetings.
5) Describe your experience, including number of years in, a) preparing tapes, b) transcription and c) CAD (computer aided dispatch) records and logs for court proceedings.
6) Describe your experience, including number of years as a Public Safety Dispatcher shift supervisor or Lead 911 Law Enforcement Dispatcher in another law enforcement entity.
7) Describe your experience, including number of years, operating a) Law enforcement radio system, b) telephone for the deaf, c) digital tape logger, and d) NAWAS, NCIC/NCJIS.
8) Describe your experience, including number of years operating computerized dispatch consoles.
9) Describe your experience, including number of years, monitoring activities of a training program, a) law enforcement communication center, b) other public or private setting.
10) Describe your experience, including number of years, making recommendations necessary to ensure that the guidelines established by the training program are being followed.
11) Describe your experience, including number of years, ensuring that subordinates receive required training classes in a timely fashion.
12) Describe your experience, including number of years, utilizing a computer program such as: CAD, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook or related or any combination of the above.
13) Describe your experience, including number of years, operating office equipment such as multiline telephones, fax machine, callbox, computerized two-way radio, etc.
