The Position
Community Based Instructors conduct a variety of outreach educational programs to individuals and/or groups of people in a variety of community settings, which may include schools, civic and senior centers, camps and other meeting facilities.
*** The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Western Area, is recruiting for a full-time Community Based Instructor 3 for its Reno office. The main purpose of this position is to assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the county 4-H Livestock, Science/Arts, Dog and Small Animals Program. Duties include facilitating program delivery, recruiting volunteers and members to the program; overseeing and coordinating workflow and providing training to lower level CBIs and volunteers. Additionally, the incumbent will maintain records/ reports required by grants as well as all other records related to the program; build and develop professional community relationships to ensure program growth; and perform other duties as assigned.
*** This full-time position works 40 hours a week, variable schedule, which includes some late nights and weekends. NOTICE: Per Nevada Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are currently subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of six days (part-time prorated) per fiscal year effective July 1, 2011. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, community development, health and nutrition, human and family development, and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires three (3) years of experience working in 4-H Program and extensive knowledge of National 4-H Program.
    This position requires supervision experience and experience providing work related training.
    This position maintains and reports program data.
    This position works a variable work schedule which includes some late nights and weekends.
    The duties of this position require lifting up to 50 pounds.
    Program participants may be bi-lingual in Spanish and English.
