The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE PRIOR TO THE ANNOUNCED CLOSING DATE BASED ON VOLUME OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. ** DEADLINE TO APPLY HAS BEEN EXTENDED ** Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. UNLV, Student Wellness is seeking a Medical Office Assistant and a Medical Office Assistant/Office Laboratory Assistant to work in the Student Health Center at UNLV. The MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT will assist the healthcare providers in serving patients in the new Faculty/Staff Clinic. Some responsibilities of the position will include: interviewing patients; measuring vital signs; preparing patients for examinations and procedures; assisting clinicians with exams; stocking and cleaning exam rooms; ordering supplies; performing procedures such as EKGs and pulmonary function testing; administering injections, medications and breathing treatments; performing chart entries in electronic medical records; contacting patients, insurance companies, and referral sites, providing excellent customer service and patient care; and assisting with supervising medical office assistants and externs. This position may also work in the laboratory, front office and medical records department if needed with the following responsibilities; phlebotomy, collecting and processing laboratory specimens in accordance with training and CLIA regulations; performing various CLIA-waived to moderately complex laboratory testing, transmitting results; performing laboratory quality control qualities; ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment; performing accurate data entry and reporting; assisting with scheduling, canceling, and collecting payments; assisting with daily work audits; scanning documents; processing requests for health information; and assisting with compiling data for reports. The work schedule is M-F, hours will vary but will not include holidays or weekends.
The MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT/OFFICE LABORATORY ASSISTANT will assist the Medical Technologist/Laboratory Manager in meeting the lab needs of the patients of the new Faculty/Staff Clinic. This position will be responsible for providing direct laboratory assistance in the clinical laboratory and also with providing support to the physicians and other health care providers providing care to patients in the Faculty/Staff Clinic. Responsibilities will include: performing phlebotomy; collecting and processing laboratory specimens in accordance with training and CLIA regulations; performing various waived laboratory testing, transmitting results; performing laboratory quality control activities; ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment; performing accurate data entry and reporting; and providing patient education. Additionally, this position will assist as needed in the back office of the clinic and some responsibilities will include: interviewing patients; measuring vital signs; preparing patients for examinations and procedures; assisting clinicians with exams; performing clinical procedures such as EKGs and pulmonary function testing; administering injections, medications, breathing treatments; and performing chart entries in electronic medical records. This position may also work in the front office and medical records department if needed with the following responsibilities; assisting with scheduling, canceling, and confirming patient appointments, registering patients, collecting payments, scanning documents, processing requests for health information, and assisting with compiling data for reports. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
