JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Staff Research Associates perform or supervise the performance of laboratory and/or field experimental procedures in support of academically-supervised research and teaching in the natural, physical, or social sciences.
*This full-time position is located at the University of Nevada, Reno, College of Science, Department of Biology. The primary responsibility of this position is to serve as general laboratory manager and oversee undergraduate course laboratories and lab preparation. Duties include: collaborating with department faculty and teaching assistants to develop and schedule individual instructional labs; help design and test lab exercises; make compounds, prepare solutions, serial dilutions, and establish and maintain cell cultures; set-up and break-down labs; properly dispose and keep records of hazardous lab waste; maintain an inventory of supply stocks and equipment by projecting needs; monitor lab funding and expenses; train teaching assistants in basic biology lab skills; maintain laboratory facilities and equipment, and manage and enforce lab safety protocols; ensure accurate recordkeeping utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel; and carry out other related duties as assigned. This position involves exposure to hazardous materials and requires a working knowledge of proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
*The work schedule is variable and is based upon the functional needs of the department. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the required area of specialization and three years of professional experience in a research laboratory or field experimental study; OR one year of experience as a Staff Research Associate III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Position Criteria
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Biology or related field.
