Highway Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify medium (GVWR 10,500-26,000 lbs.) and heavy (GVWR greater than 26,000 lbs.) highway maintenance and construction equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position assists the Carson City Equipment Shop with preventive maintenance; performs repairs on all aspects of NDOT equipment and performs road service calls outside of the equipment shop during winter operations and betterments.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-in-Training program in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
A valid Class A or B Nevada commercial driver's license is required within six months of the date of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
Incumbent is required to furnish their own mechanic's tools.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment.
Additional Position Criteria
This position requires experience repairing CDL type Trucks or Tractor Trailer Combinations with 26,000 GVW or heavier, or Construction and Excavation type equipment.
