The Position
Personnel Technicians perform a wide variety of personnel activities including personnel records processing, recruitment and examining, new hire orientation, list certification, and payroll support duties.
-- A full-time Personnel Technician 2 is open for recruitment at the University of Nevada, Reno. The position supports the Benefits Department within Business Center North-HR. BCN-HR Benefits serves UNR, TMCC, DRI, WNC, GBC, and the Nevada System of Higher Education office. The incumbent will provide support in the area of leave administration, including the administration of the Family and Medical Leave Act for professional and classified employees, and the administration of the Catastrophic Leave program for classified employees. Duties include maintaining confidential leave files; contacting employees? departments for missing or incomplete leave documents; and assisting departments and employees by answering questions concerning leave accruals and leave policies; communicating with departments, BCN records, and BCN management when employees are in leave without pay status and preparing the year-end catastrophic leave report to State of Nevada Division of Human Resource Management. In addition, the incumbent will conduct leave audits for classified employees and monthly audits of insurance billings and verification of payroll deductions for enrolled employees. The incumbent will be part of a small team and as such will provide general support to employees and staff in the benefits area.
-- The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of technical personnel/payroll experience; OR one year of experience as a Personnel Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    Knowledge and experience applying rules and regulations governing the administration of benefits programs.
    Applicants must have experience working in benefits in a Human Resources Department.
    Applicants must have experience using a Human Resources Management System.
    Applicants must have experience administering employee leave, including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
    This position requires advanced experience with Excel, Word and Access software.
