The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The position is located in Carson City and is housed within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division of Health Care Financing and Policy (DHCFP), Program Services unit. The incumbent will assist in the planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring of the Division's statewide Medicaid and Nevada Check Up dental program. Under the general supervision of a Social Services Program Specialist III, the incumbent will help research develop and write policies and procedures; and perform a full range of duties which are described in the class specifications. For example: Conduct program needs assessments; gather input from personnel and interested parties; and help ensure the dental program is operating effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with Federal and State laws, regulations, and policies. The incumbent will also help provide policy support and assistance to dental health care providers throughout the State.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of paraprofessional experience which included providing social services, medical assistance programs services, or health care services to the public and required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR two years of experience as a Family Services Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Some positions require professional licensure, which will be identified at the time of recruitment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination

SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAM SPEC 1 (12.323) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question.
