The Position
Licensed Practical Nurses provide general or psychiatric practical nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Within the Nevada State Veterans Home and under the direction of the Admissions Coordinator, the Licensed Practical Nurse II serves as the agencies Admissions Liaison and functions as part of the Admissions Department by taking advantage of all available resources and implementing innovative ideas. Actively participates in off-site marketing and assists in transitioning residents from hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, group homes and private homes. The Admissions Liaison will assess veterans and spouses of veterans for possible admissions to include support with the application process, assist families with required documentation, submit hospital documents to the Admissions Coordinator, educate families and potential residents on costs of services and programs. Through a team approach, process applications for admissions and re-admissions utilizing a medical computer program. Actively participates in providing tours and assisting potential residents and their families through admissions-related telephone calls. In addition, responsibilities include serving as a back-up to the Admissions Coordinator and provide clinical coverage on the neighborhood as required. This is a 24 hour facility; therefore applicants may be required to work shift work. Work experience in a skilled nursing facility is preferred. This position is located in Boulder City, Nevada.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, one year of which was providing nursing care to inmates in a correctional setting, individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities, or patients in a hospital or skilled nursing facility (e.g., convalescent or nursing home).
Special Notes
    The ability to travel at least 50% of the time is required.
Special Requirements
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Intravenous (IV) certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
