Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
-TWO IT Professional III positions are available with the Nevada System of Higher Education's (NSHE) System Computing Services Department. While headquartered in Las Vegas, NV the incumbents may be called upon to provide technical support statewide. The positions will monitor, maintain, configure, troubleshoot and install data routers, switches, optical and wireless equipment and LAN-WAN circuits on the NevadaNet backbone and distribution layers. The positions will also monitor and maintain, troubleshoot and install video routers, switches, proxies, gatekeepers, bridges, video codecs, monitors sound systems ,and the scheduling-control software-hardware infrastructure supporting the video conferencing system. The incumbents will install supporting racks, cabinets, and cable management hardware; build, install and terminate fiber optic cables and category 6 copper based connections, wireless infrastructure, and data center server/storage connections. *********************************************************************** -The purpose/function of these positions are to provide tier 1 and 2 technical support for data center and Wide Area Network implementation, testing, and troubleshooting of video/data network infrastructure connectivity; primarily in the Las Vegas region. Activities include, but are not limited to: video conference scheduling and infrastructure hardware/software operation and troubleshooting; provision of real time video/data and wireless connectivity technical support for network customers; implementation, modification, testing and troubleshooting of non-core network data and video infrastructure which includes network hardware, software, and wiring/cabling primarily in the Las Vegas region; also includes testing and analysis of new video/data network technologies and analysis of implementation feasibility on the NSHE network.
-The work schedule is initially Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm; however, the schedule is variable and will include occasional nights, weekends and holidays on both a scheduled and call-out/call-back basis. Employees are also expected to rotate shifts on a routine basis. Positions require walking, standing, bending, twisting and lifting 50 pounds on a frequent basis. NOTICE: Per Nevada Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are currently subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of six days per fiscal year effective July 1, 2011. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analyst and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Consistent with the minimum qualification, three years of experience performing duties relevant to the position are required. Duties relevant to the position include data/video network administration, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. |

Experience of at least one year at the journeyman level with Cisco Layer 2/Layer 3 routers and switches (2800 series or higher) is required. |
|
Requires Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) experience. |
|
Requires experience monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting and installing data routers, switches, configure ports, optical equipment and LAN-WAN circuits. |

Requires experience with video conferencing systems, installing video routers, Dswitches, proxies, gatekeepers, bridges, codecs, and monitoring sound systems. |
|
Fiber optic and copper structured cabling experience is preferred. |
