The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Successful candidate will oversee the Nevada Noxious and Invasive Plants Program within the Department of Agriculture. Must have strong background in plant identification including biology, taxonomy and impacts; experience in implementing regulatory compliance and enforcement procedures; ArcGIS experience; federal grants experience; current knowledge and experience in all methods of weed control in both agricultural and range settings; ability to cooperate and coordinate with diverse groups of people, high degree of interpersonal skills, ability to mediate for differing opinions and communicate adequately and smoothly, both verbally and in writing, with staff, producers, public and political and legal representatives. Position requires a high degree of travel across the state, may require working occasional evenings and weekends. NOTE: Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of 48 hours per year (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2013.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field and two years of journey level experience in a variety of plant industry programs such as seed certification, vertebrate pest control, licensing of pesticide applicators and pest control firms, agricultural produce grading or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR one year of experience as an Agriculturist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with ArcGIS, GPS and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel & Publisher).
    Experience in identifying noxious weeds found in Nevada.
    Experience in implementing regulatory compliance and enforcement procedures.
    Experience and expertise in integrated pest management and invasive plant control methods.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
