The Position
Agricultural Police Officers are field agents and inspectors (peace officers) of the Department of Agriculture, and as such, enforce all State agricultural laws and regulations.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

Under close supervision, incumbents receive training in performing the duties described in the series concept. This is the trainee level in the series. Incumbents will be progressed to the Agricultural Enforcement Officer II level upon successful completion of the probationary period, meeting the minimum qualifications at the II level, and with the approval of the appointing authority. The position is responsible for inspection, investigation and enforcement duties for the Department of Agriculture, Livestock Inspection for the Northwestern Nevada Region. Inspects horses for the Bureau of Land Management impounds; performs livestock or agricultural products investigations concerning health and brand violations, as well as theft investigations; issues warnings or writes citations, seizes or returns rejected loads to state of origin; writes reports and files complaints with criminal justice agencies; assists law enforcement agencies in investigating agricultural and livestock crimes; and supervises brand inspectors to include auditing brand inspection books and paperwork, and providing training and evaluation of work.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience either working with and caring for livestock on a ranch or similar setting or caring for nursery stock in a growing or retail market setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.

Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
