The Position
Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position develops and implements science-based Wildlife Diversity management programs to meet the needs of wildlife resources state-wide. It coordinates with Division staff to accomplish Wildlife Diversity Division work program objectives and implements programs and procedures for non-game program elements guided by Nevada's Wildife Action Plan. It also manages, enhances and protects non-game wildlife in a cost-effective, proactive manner before they become rare and very costly to recover. Incumbent will facilitate increased on-the-ground conservation actions identified in Nevada's Wildlife Action Plan which will head off legal challenges based on the view that the stateis lacking management attention and needs federal intervention through the Endangered Species Act.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations related to wildlife management; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
WILDLIFE STAFF SPECIALIST (01.712) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Do you have a Master of Sciences degree from an accredited college or university in Wildlife Management, Biology or related field.
2) Describe your experience developing and administering program plans and procedures.
3) Describe your experience drafting Commission level policy statements.
4) Describe your experience conducting training seminars as it relates to 1) wildlife management, 2) statistical analysis and techniques 3) management applications 4) planning and coordinating instructors.
5) Describe your experience compiling annual and quarterly reports for presentation to 1) Agency 2) Legislative committees.
6) Describe your experience administering, monitoring and maintaining federal grants in the following areas: 1) writing project agreements and grants 2) working with grant administrators 3) monitoring cost accounting system and reports.
7) Describe your experience developing databases.
8) Describe your experience writing and reviewing technical reports.
9) Describe your experience developing and administering contracts.
10) Describe your experience developing and conducting program evaluations.
