Group Supervisors perform duties involving the education, employment, training, treatment, care and custody of juvenile offenders residing within a State Youth Training Center; maintain comprehensive records of assigned youths' program activities; and provide individual guidance pursuant to State or federal laws and regulations.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Group Supervisors perform duties involving the education, employment, training, treatment, care and custody of juvenile offenders incarcerated within a State Youth Training Center; maintain comprehensive records of assigned youths' program activities; and provide individual guidance as stipulated in State laws and regulations.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Group Supervisor 4 positions supervise the activities of youth within an assigned unit; directly observes work habits, social behaviors, and attitude to ensure conduct meets established rules and regulations; provides assistance and direction to youth in the performance of assignments, acceptable behavior, proper dress and personal hygiene; participates as a member of a treatment team to implement a treatment and discharge plan; and documents progress or problems in youth development. This position participates in Clinical Assessment team meetings to review progress of youth with Administrative staff; makes recommendations for youths' program progression, implementation of special strategies, and release. This position coordinates efforts with Administration and other departmental staff to assess program functions and to make recommendations for implementation of strategies and components to improve program effectiveness. Supervisory responsibilities include preparing work schedules and coordinating staff assignments; monitoring performance of subordinate staff by reviewing logs and reports and by direct observation; preparing and conducting performance reviews; providing training and direction in counseling techniques, report writing, record keeping, and institutional policies and procedures; and preparing documentation for first level disciplinary actions.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible experience working with youth in a custodial, therapeutic, educational or correctional setting with responsibility for performing vocational assessments, making oral presentations during group sessions and treatment team meetings, and providing vocational and life skills training to juvenile offenders; OR one year as a Group Supervisor III in Nevada State service; OR a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, criminal justice, education or related field and two years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Incumbents must obtain and maintain current first aid certification as a condition of continuing employment.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

Per NAC 284.317, applicants must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment. |

The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. 1) Describe your experience, including number of years, planning, developing, or implementing activities and events in one or all of the following juvenile correctional, education, or social setting environment: a) Worked in an educational/social environment; b) Worked in a juvenile corrections environment; c) Worked in a juvenile corrections environment with a substantial recreational and educational component environment for four of the last five years.

2) Describe your experience, including number of years, supervising and coordinating staff assignments for the following correctional, educational, or professional staff: a) Supervised either a corrections, educational and/or professional staff; b) supervised corrections staff in the last five years; c) Supervised a combination of corrections and professional staff in the last five years. Be sure to include titles and number of staff supervised and that this information corresponds with documentation in your application.

3) Describe your experience, including number of years, of your involvement with evaluating programs and/or the performance of subordinate workers: a) completed performance evaluations for subordinate staff; b) completed performance evaluations of staff in a corrections or educational environment; c) formal program evaluations in the form of quality improvement for a minimum of two years. Be sure to detail your experience.

4) Describe your experience initiating and implementing policies and procedures, or other innovations to the operations of an institution that involves security, safety and custody: a) policy had minor impact on the institution (e.g., internal processes/procedures); b) policies impacted a segment or portion of an institution in the areas of safety, security or custody (e.g., cottage, unit, or section); c) policies impacted an institution's security and custody procedures as a whole. Be sure to detail your experience.
