Clinical Social Workers provide clinical services to clients/inmates in a residential, home, inpatient, outpatient, rehabilitation, correctional or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The incumbent will provide initial screening assessments, detailed psycho-social assessments, suicide risk assessments and illness histories for all patients admitted. This information is used by the treatment team and physician to develop the plan of care and disposition for the consumer. Discharge planning is done by the CSW who is responsible for identifying the safest and most efficient discharge plan for the consumer. The CSW will also work with the clients individually in a therapeutic environment and conduct group therapy sessions on the inpatient unit. Family therapy may be required for the client as well as interaction with the commitment court system.

Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker by the Board of Examiners for Social Workers.
Special Notes
Incumbents must obtain and maintain licensure or provisional licensure to engage in social work as a Clinical Social Worker or associate in social work in accordance with NRS Chapter 641B and the regulations adopted by the Board of Examiners for Social Workers.
Persons employed by a government agency on July 1, 1988 as a social worker, supervisor of social work or administrator of social work who were performing clinical social work duties, and who possess a license to practice as an associate in social work and who meet the experience requirements are eligible to compete in the selection process for this series.

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
