APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $44,411.76 to  $66,001.68  PAY GRADE: 35
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspectors perform skilled mechanical inspections on commercial vehicles and review related records to ensure compliance with federal and State motor carrier laws and regulations and to identify potential safety problems and mechanical deficiencies; conduct mechanical inspections at crashes; and provide technical assistance to the NHP and the motor carrier industry on the regulatory and mechanical aspects of commercial vehicle safety.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Position functions as a commercial enforcement support supervisor and statewide training coordinator; performs duties in the commercial vehicle safety inspector series and supervises personnel in the permitting of hazardous material transport and amber lights; develops schedules and instructs training courses for sworn and non-sworn enforcement personnel and the motor carrier industry; arranges for outside instructors; prepares training budgets; maintains training records; responsible for developing, monitoring and reporting the Size and Weight Enforcement Program and assist in developing Commercial Vehicle Plans; represents the Division in multi-agency meetings regarding Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement; serves as subject matter expert on Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school, vocational school or equivalent education and four years of enforcement agency experience as an inspector certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), including successful completion of compliance review training and providing industry training; OR two years of experience as a Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspector II in Nevada State service which must have included successful completion of compliance review training and providing industry training.
Special Notes
    Incumbents must obtain and maintain the following certifications as a condition of continuing employment: First Responder Radiological; North American Standard (NAS) Roadside Inspector; First Responder Emergency Medical Treatment; NAS Roadside Hazardous Material Inspector; NAS CargoTank Inspector; and NAS Other Bulk Package Inspector.
    Incumbents work unarmed in a law enforcement setting and may be exposed to a variety of potentially hazardous situations and substances.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
The Examination
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTOR III (11.551) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
