PAY GRADE: 35
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

This position is for the Division of Industrial Relations, Mine Safety and Training Section (MSTS) located in Elko, Nevada. Incumbent will conduct safety inspections of businesses and mines and provide training to all applicable employees.
Incumbent may be required to use personal vehicle to conduct State business. Working shifts other than 8:00am to 5:00pm may be required, including weekends.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Five years of technical, operational, or management experience in mines, mills, beneficiation plants, or smelters, one year of which must have been spent working
underground.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination
SAFETY SPECIALIST, MINE SAFETY AND HEALTH (11.539) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Describe your experience, including number of years, in supervising work crews in ore extraction, ore processing, or equipment maintenance.
2) Describe your experience, including number of years, in mine safety and health.
3) Describe your experience, including number of years, in supervising crews in two of the above areas; or management experience in a mining setting.
4) Describe your experience, including number of years, conducting regulatory or criminal investigations.
5) Describe your experience, including number of years, as a mine safety inspector for a regulatory agency.
6) Describe your experience, including number of years, in preparing and presenting training classes in mining/and or safety.
7) Are you an approved Mine Safety Health Association (MSHA) Trainer surface/underground.
8) Do you have a Bachelor's or an Associate's degree in a Mining discipline?
