The Position
Group Supervisors perform duties involving the education, employment, training, treatment, care and custody of juvenile offenders residing within a State Youth Training Center; maintain comprehensive records of assigned youths' program activities; and provide individual guidance pursuant to State or federal laws and regulations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
Under limited supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties in the series concept and partcipate as a member of a treatment team by assisting in the formulation and evaluation of a treatment plan and making recommendations on alternative treatment methods. Additionally, Group Supervisor III's coordinate and oversee group and individual treatment sessions; develop session goals, rules and content using prescribed methods; document group and individual treatment and activities; and prepare individual progress summary reports for review by the treatment team, committing judge, parole officer, legal guardian, and institutional staff.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of progressively responsible experience working with youth in a custodial, therapeutic, educational or correctional setting with responsibility for performing vocational assessments, making oral presentations during group sessions and treatment team meetings, and providing vocational and life skills training to juvenile offenders; OR one year as a Group Supervisor II in Nevada State service; OR a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, criminal justice, education or related field and one year of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Incumbents must obtain and maintain current first aid certification as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    Per NAC 284.317, applicants must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
GROUP SUPERVISOR 3 (12.537) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe your experience, including number of years and where and when this experience was gained, as a member of a treatment team for juvenile offenders in: a) juvenile corrections environment, b) an educational environment, or c) mental health or other related institution. Experience must include assisting in the formulation and evaluation of a treatment plan and must be specifically identified to receive credit.
2) Describe your experience, including number of years and where and when this experience was gained, coordinating and overseeing group and individual treatment sessions for: a) juvenile offenders, b) youths other than juvenile offenders or c) adults.
3) Describe your experience, including number of years and where this experience was gained, instructing youths in life, educational and vocational skills.
4) Describe your experience, including number of years and where this experience was gained, conducting intake interviews in an institutional setting.
5) Describe your experience, including number of years and where this experience was gained, maintaining individual case records of juvenile offender's behaviors and activities.
6) Describe your experience and training, including number of years and where the experience was gained, implementing appropriate verbal, behavioral or physical interventions to control aggressive, hostile or violent youth and/or responding to emergency situations such as searching for runaways and applying first aid.
7) Describe your experience performing security checks of an assigned unit including head counts, room and body searches being sure to include where and when this experience was gained in your answer and if it was with adults or juvenile offenders.
8) Please list current certifications you possess along with organizations in which you are currently a member. NOTE: you must attach current certifications to receive credit in your rating of training and experience.
