The Position
Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform journey level duties and may serve as a lead worker to lower level IT staff as assigned. This is a supervisory level for the Computer Operations function.
This position is located within District III, Ely. NOTE: Incumbent will be responsible for servicing the entire District III area to include Ely, Elko, and Winnemucca. The incumbent will provide critical support to the Department of Transportation, Department of Public Safety and allied agencies' communications and electronic systems. This includes installation and maintenance of the Nevada shared radio system; existing VHF high-band systems, telecommunications systems, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), backbone network systems, mountain top communications, and various other specialty technology projects; and improve safety to public transportation by keeping over-all communications and information system operating at peak efficiency. Applicants must be willing to work standby and carry the standby cellular phone for evening and weekend system troubleshooting. NOTE: THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF HAVING THEIR FINGERPRINTS ROLLED. (SEE ITEM #2 UNDER "SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS".)

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, and/or applications analysis and development; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
    Statewide travel is required.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    Requires climbing towers, traveling to remote mountain top sites via 4-wheel Drive, Sno-Cat tracked vehicles, helicopter or hiking by foot.
    Position requires working in inclement weather and varying conditions.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires experience with VHF/UHF conventional and trunked radio systems.
    This position requires experience with various physical network types (i.e., fiber-optic, copper, microwave, Ethernet RF bridges).
    This position requires experience with Ethernet LAN/WAN technology (IP addressing, routers, switches, etc.).
