Certified Nursing Assistants perform basic restorative services and basic nursing services related to the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, basic mental health and protection of patient rights.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This recruitment is a continuous recruitment for positions as they become available at the Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City, Nevada.
At the direction and under immediate supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, incumbents function in a trainee capacity and perform tasks for which they are currently receiving training in a formal Certified Nursing Assistant program. As prescribed by the Nevada State Board of Nursing, at least 16 hours of instruction in the classroom must be completed before a trainee is directly involved with a patient.
The Nursing Assistant Trainee provides personal care, monitoring and reporting of vital signs, insures adequate hydration and nutrition, documents the care given, and responds to resident's requests and needs. Progression to the Certified Nursing Assistant level may occur upon meeting minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with the approval of the appointing authority.
This is a 24-hour facility; therefore, applicants may be required to work shift work.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current enrollment in a formal training program required for certification as a nursing assistant which has been approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing; OR completion of a formal Certified Nursing Assistant training program approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing with results of the certification examination pending. (In accordance with 42 CFR 483.75 (e)(2) (1998) an individual may retain Nursing Assistant Trainee status without certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant from the State of Nevada Board of Nursing for no more than four months, on a full-time basis.)
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
