WILDLIFE STAFF SPECIALIST - Position May Be Assigned to Yerington, Reno or Ely - Wildlife Mgt Areas/NDOW Owned Lands
APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $50,571.36 to  $75,627.36  PAY GRADE: 38
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.
This position provides coordination, guidance and supervision of staff who manage the Nevada Department of Wildlife's (NDOW) Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) and select other lands owned by NDOW. Actively interacts with staff in the development and implementation of habitat improvement and wildlife management plans for all WMAs and select other lands; prepares and submits annual federal aid project agreements, amendments and job progress reports as required by the Division of Federal Aid; prepares and submits annual and biennial budgets for all WMA and land and water inventory programs; develops and submits project proposals for funding from various NDOW managed funds such as Duck Stamp, Upland Bird Stamp, Habitat Conservation fee and Mining Assessment funds; provides oversight of NDOW's Duck Stamp program; develops and submits Conceptual Wildlife Management Area Plans; participates in the valuation and decision making process associated with land and water right acquisitions; is involved in discussions and negotiations pertinent to water rights and land issues associated with various NDOW interests; communicates and coordinates with various governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations regarding various wildlife related issues. ****NOTE: Depending on the candidate chosen and the needs of the agency, the position may be located in Yerington, Reno OR Ely. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations related to wildlife management; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
WILDLIFE STAFF SPECIALIST (01.712) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Do you have a Master of Sciences degree from an accredited college or university in Wildlife Management, Biology or related field.

4) Describe your experience conducting training seminars as it relates to 1) wildlife management, 2) statistical analysis and techniques 3) management applications 4) planning and coordinating instructors.
5) Describe your experience compiling annual and quarterly reports for presentation to 1) Agency 2) Legislative committees.
6) Describe your experience administering, monitoring and maintaining federal grants in the following areas: 1) writing project agreements and grants 2) working with grant administrators 3) monitoring cost accounting system and reports.
7) Describe your experience developing databases.
8) Describe your experience writing and reviewing technical reports.
9) Describe your experience developing and administering contracts.
10) Describe your experience developing and conducting program evaluations.
