The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Wildlife Area Technicians may be assigned to work at a wildlife management area, on a water development
crew or as a regional utility person. Typical duties involve the maintenance of wildlife habitat by operating
light and heavy equipment, controlling water levels in wetland areas, managing vegetation and related activities intended to develop and enhance an environment which will support the State's wildlife species.
Position supervises water development construction and maintenance; ensures that all vehicles and equipment used on projects remain in good operating condition and proper maintenance is done in accordance with appropriate operating manuals; endures equipment is utilized in a safe and responsible manner. Position implements other programs to achieve assigned habitat program objectives. Members of the Water Development Crew are occasionally required to work for extended periods in locations significant distances from Winnemucca which would require camping out in remote areas for an extended period of time.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of journey level experience in maintaining lands for wildlife, managing water levels and manipulating water flow, maintaining equipment and facilities, and surveying wildlife by counting and taking inventory of species; OR two years of experience as a Wildlife Area Technician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada commercial driver's license.
Education above the high school level in wildlife management, biology or closely related field may be substituted for the qualifying experience.
The Examination

WILDLIFE AREA TECHNICIAN III (01.785) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

3) Describe your experience with the following heavy equipment: 1) bull dozers and front-end loaders, 2) excavators, 3) motor graders, 4) diesel trucks, 5) construction equipment - backhoes, 6) forklifts, 7) small engine powered equipment.
4) Describe your experience with constructing water catchment devices: 1) dikes and ditches, 2) nest islands, 3) water control devices.
5) Describe your experience with: 1)assessing water availability, 2)reporting on usage, 3) irrigation.
6) Describe your experience in wildlife management in the following areas: 1) conducting basic field studies, 2) operating hunter check stations, 3) trapping and/or transplanting wildlife, 4) providing information to the public, 5) identifying and treating diseases, 6) managing vegetation.
7) Describe your experience in construction maintenance in the following areas: 1) basic vehicle maintenance, 2) rebuilding/remodeling structures, 3) using specialized tools and equipment, 4) water craft, 5) maintenance and repairs to facility and structures.
8) Do you have a current drivers license either as a: (1) Class A or B Nevada Drivers License; (2) Class A or B out of state drivers license; or (3) both. Please describe.
9) Describe your experience in supervision of paid employees and the planning and organizing work schedules.
10) Describe your experience in the following areas: 1) direct purchasing, 2)working with vendors, 3) working with state purchasing.
11) Describe your experience with budgets in the following areas: 1) monitoring expenditures, 2) projecting needs, 3) determining needs.
12) Describe your experience with training others in construction or labor related duties.
