APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $51,865.92 to  $77,569.20  PAY GRADE: 38
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.
Under the direction of the Division Administrator, Fisheries, the position will develop and implement an aquatic species management plan to coordinate, prevent, monitor and control aquatic invasive species (AIS) in Nevada. Works with other agencies to develop a watercraft inspection plan for the boating season; develops a risk assessment on priority waters to focus prevention and outreach efforts; assists in development and dissemination of AIS outreach messages; develops science-based monitoring protocols for use by regional crews, volunteers and other agencies/entities; coordinates with state, federal and tribal agencies and the public in implementing the program. The second is the native trout program which is responsible for overseeing the work program and activities for Nevada's six native trout including recovery actions for the Lahontan cutthroat trout and bull trout as well as proactive programs on the other four species to enhance populations, improve habitat and prevent their listing. The third and final program is the Aquatic Nuisance Species program. Incumbent will initiate the development of a state-wide plan and is responsible for coordinating ongoing monitoring program, and representing the agency on various committees and working groups

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Examination

WILDLIFE STAFF SPECIALIST (01.712) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

5) Describe your experience compiling annual and quarterly reports for presentation to 1) Agency 2) Legislative committees.
6) Describe your experience administering, monitoring and maintaining federal grants in the following areas: 1) writing project agreements and grants 2) working with grant administrators 3) monitoring cost accounting system and reports.
7) Describe your experience developing databases.
8) Describe your experience writing and reviewing technical reports.
9) Describe your experience developing and administering contracts.
10) Describe your experience developing and conducting program evaluations.
